RWANDA FW A SCR. 15+ GASANGE Rwanda is a country full of diversity and rich in fertile lands. The whole country is set on a relatively high altitude, the lowest point being 950 meters above sea level. Earthy swamps and sunny savannahs prevail in the east, while the center is characterized by rolling hills. Volcanoes provide nutritional soils blessing the whole area with verdant slopes. Amidst this scenery in an altitude of around 1,500 meters above sea level, many smallholder producers cultivate the Red Bourbon variety. In 2010, several local farmers from the Gatsibo District set up the local washing station Gasange as a cooperative. Together with the help of an exporting company, the washing station had been professionalized in the years after up to the point in 2017 when the washing station was rented to one member of the cooperative. The idea behind this was to facilitate more efficient managing and processing at the washing station while the members still delivered their cherries. This step proved to be quite a success as in the meantime the output of the station was tripled from one to three containers per crop. This special microlot stuns with complexity and truly reflects the craftsmanship put into the production of these beans. If you look for an excellent and yet rare cup, showing you East Africa’s playful coffees, you should not miss out on this coffee from Gasange!
