Colombia’s many faces are stunningly surprising: two oceans, the Amazon River, snow-capped mountains as well as vivid urban communities. Each state and region in Colombia is said to have an individual character creating a diverse mix of culture as well as topographic settings. The Colombian department of Tolima is the third largest coffee producer in the country, accounting for about 12% of the total Colombian coffee production. Tolima counts with high quality soils and abundant natural water streams flowing down from three snow peaked volcanoes, with altitudes of up to 5,400 meters. In the southwest of Tolima, close to Ataco, the producer group Agprocem is based. About three hours by 4×4 or 45 minutes by mule away lies Finca Loma Talá. Nestor Rodriguez is the owner of this only 12 ha sized gem. His estate lies on the slopes of the Rio Saldaña valley, overlooking an abundance of green. There is a refreshing yet pleasant average temperature between 19 and 22 degrees all year round. Long sunny days and rather cool nights favor the growth of extraordinary coffee beans as the beans grow slower, but become much more intense in flavor. Nestor was still very young when his father died and the farm was suddenly his responsibility. However, knowing every rock on his land from an early age on has proven to perfect his skills in coffee cultivation. Through his early success he was able to invest a good deal of the profits into technology helping him to control his quality. Nestor reliably provides us with his outstanding yet rare coffee – we are more than happy to share it with you!
