When the Women’s Crown coffee arrived at the roastery last week, it was more than another delivery. I’d met the women who produce this coffee, stood beside Valentin, the owner of Gasharu, and watched the work that brings it to life. I’d also shared dinner with his family and met his parents in the fields, helping to dry the coffee that would eventually reach our roastery.
The moment the container was opened, the warehouse filled with that fresh, lush smell of green coffee. It transformed the space. I could see the journey in that aroma the fields, the washing station, the people I met.
“I remember washing the coffee with them, with my feet. I remember serving them the coffee we roasted back in Dublin and telling them how their work reaches our customers and my daughters. That’s the bond that made me want to bring this coffee home.”

Why We Work With Gasharu and the Women’s Crown Project
The Women’s Crown project represents strength and partnership. It’s about recognising the work of women in coffee at origin, in our supply chain, and in our own families.
Working with Gasharu isn’t just about sourcing quality. It’s about collaboration, respect, and traceability. Valentin and his team invest in their people and their community. Visiting them solidified everything I believe in transparency, fairness, and quality with purpose.
The Coffee Itself
Women’s Crown is a Bourbon A1 varietal, grown and processed in the Nyamasheke region. It carries all the hallmarks of Rwandan coffeefloral, balanced, and full of depth.
Cup scores reach 86 and above, and it’s now part of our house espresso. It adds complexity, sweetness, and a level of quality rarely seen in a blend. Most roasters rely on Brazilian bases; we chose Rwanda. Not because it’s easy, but because it’s better.
This coffee brings a layered, luxurious element to everyday espresso an example of how traceability and taste can coexist beautifully.
Why It Matters
Using Women’s Crown says a lot about who we are at Silverskin. We believe that coffee should mean something at every level from the women who hand-pick and wash it, to the customers who drink it.
Our warehouse isn’t just holding a few bags of something rare. It’s stacked to the rafters with Women’s Crown. What’s normally reserved as a limited single origin is now part of something shared our house espresso.
That decision carries our values: quality, connection, and respect for the people who make this possible.
